Why Some Mountains Were Meant for You To Climb While Others Were Meant To Be Cast Into The Sea

This is a message that started out as a dream and as I began to walk through it in my mind I knew that I had to get up and document the key elements of it before I lost it in slumberland.

It kind of started as I was focusing on some of the health issues that I have been going through and that it would be nice that God would have healed me as He had done so many other times before. But then, I believe He started to show me where the real value of my relationship is with Him through this mountain parable that He gave us in the bible and the one He gave me in this dream.  

As always the download was huge and I couldn't sleep anymore but I knew in my spirit which doesn’t sleep, that it was Him teaching me something that is enormously valuable to my understanding of just how wonderful our relationship could be with God if we just focused on the initial sacrifice He made for us so that we could enter into a deep relationship with the Father in spite of being sick, having a disease, struggling through finances or whatever it is that represents our difficulties in life.

My musing ended with a mountain top experience which gave me a new perspective on casting mountains into the sea. I now understand that some mountains we come across in life are meant to be climbed while others are meant to be cast into the sea. I saw that the journey of climbing them and that the value that is wrapped up in the climb and not so much as reaching the summit. Perhaps this is why they are wider at the base which can represent the start of the climb and much narrower at the top which could represent the finishing of whatever we are processing through. More on that in a minute.

So, the analogy that God showed me was like when we were kids and we looked forward to Holidays like Christmas, Easter, and our birthday events. Ah, when we were kids those events seem to have excited us to know end. Oh the joy of receiving a birthday gift that we've always wanted, or Christmas gifts that were on our list, or an Easter basket full of delectable sweets. We would be excited for weeks and even months depending on the gift or treat.

Just as he chose you and him before the foundation of the world, that you should be holy and without blame before him in love, having predestined you to adoption as your son and daughter by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will which he purposed in himself, to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he made you accepted in the beloved. In him ye have redemption through his blood and forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace which he made to abound towards you in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to you the mystery of his will, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times, ye might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth in him. I ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will and all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing him, being fruitful in every good work, strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, and all patience and long suffering with joy. Give me thanks to the Father who has qualified you to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints who walk in the way. I pray that your hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love and unity, and that you would attain to all the riches of the full assurance of understanding, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which has been given to each of my listeners by Christ Jesus, that you are enriched in everything by him, in all utterance and all knowledge, so that you do not come short in obtaining or operating in your calling and purpose, nor in using any spiritual gifts or talents, eagerly waiting for the continued revelation of our Lord Jesus, who will confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the near coming of the day of our Lord. God is faithful by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus. Okay, now therefore, my sisters and brothers in Christ, when things get tough, think about whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and whatever things are of a good report. If there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things alone. I pray that in these very in time days that you would let your love be without hypocrisy, hate and loath what is evil, cling to what is good and righteous, be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor, giving preference to one another, not lagging in diligence, fervent and fully gulfed in spiritual fire, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, walking in the peace of God, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer, distributing to the needs of the saints, that is each other, and that you would be given the hospitality. May the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like minded towards one another. According to Christ Jesus, may we learn to be of one mind and one accord, operating completely and fully in love and unity, always striving for the working out of God's specific will for each of our lives, while working in partnership with each other within the church and the Holy Spirit, as He manifests as miracle signs and wonders through the daily activities of our ministry and kingdom work, and while we also go out preaching the gospel and word and deed, let us love and serve one another, our enemy, and those who wouldn't expect us to do so, considering each person better than ourselves. Find up any words or thoughts that are contrary to the love of God, or which would set you back in your Christian walk. Step out in faith today and walk with God, being assured that nothing will separate you from him as long as you abide in him. Call those things that don't exist as though they do. Now but and there's no way that we could have seen this as kids, but God showed me that the real value in these events was in the mundane days of our parents getting up at four AM to go to work while also trying to feed us and get us ready for school at the same time. And then after the send off or drop off, they headed off to work to hear the start bell sound. When I worked at Sierra Pacific Lumber Company, I worked two hours and then the bell would go off and we would walk briskly to the break room and take our prized fifteen minute break. The schedule didn't allow for much time for thoughts as to why I was working at this job or how I could get another more suited to my liking. Anyway, the second bell went off, and we more slowly walked back to our stations. I remember looking forward to the lunch bell, as that break was two times longer than the fifteen minute break, and I could eat my lunch like a private in the military at ten minutes flat. This left me twenty minutes of personal time. No real regrets as I love working in a production environment, but remember ninety five percent of people are not working in the jobs that they love. And this is where the real sacrifice comes in. I remember my mom working two jobs as a waitress, so that she could pay the rent, get gas for the car, and some food for us kids. Anyway, the lunch bell sounded and we rushed off to our little delectables in our lunch basket, satisfying our appetites for food, which in many cases is the bright, bright side of our day. We do a little chit chat with people catching up with irrelevant news and bam the bell rings again in time to get back to it. At the final break bell, we began to reflect on the why we did what we did, and for some, to think that we were thankful to have a job. The day ends with some satisfaction that we knew that we did something, that we accomplished something, and that the money we earned can perhaps bring us some joy, and that perhaps during the holiday events we would have the opportunity to spend it on our kids. You see, when no one's looking at those mundane days, at the sacrifices that are made in between those days of working, it is where the real value of the gifts we get are at. The gifts come and go, but the sacrifices have been etched in our heavenly records. It is right here where I understand that, although God has given us spiritual gifts, be it a word of knowledge, wisdom, healing, faith, or speaking in tongues or discernment, the real value, the true value of our relationship with God is not in these gifts and their manifestations, but in the days that seem mundane. The value of the gifts is not so much in the manifestation of the gifts, but in the sacrifices made that we would have them and their benefits in the first place. I know that you were seeing just now Second Corinthians five twenty one, for he made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in him. When Jesus became your sin so that you would not have to go to heaven and try to justify yourself before a perfect and holy God, the value is found in his sacrifice, not in the fact that he might have healed you from cancer, giving you a new heart, or even gave you the ability to be a millionaire. Isaiah fifty three five, first Peter two twenty four, Deuteronomy eight eighteen, and second Corinthians eight nine. Yes, those are nice things, and we definitely can appreciate them, but the real nuts and bolts is the journey Jesus took for thirty three years, resulting in his being murdered so that we can live forever in relationship with God. Acts five thirty, chapter seven fifty one through fifty three, Matthew twenty seven, thirty two through fifty six, Mark fifteen, twenty one through forty one, Luke twenty three, thirty three through forty nine, and John nineteen, sixteen through thirty seven. The true value of your relationship with God was founded on a cross, which is really the culmination of the life of Jesus, whereby many of his days were lived outside the public eye, when he would get up and pray all through the night, just for you that one day you would receive him into your life and be forever changed. Oh yes, I believe Jesus prayed for me all those years back in my death days, that I would one day lay down my pride, my spiritual ignorance, my rebellious ways, and that I would receive his gift, the sacrifice he made for me when no one was looking, the prayers he prayed when no one was around asking him for stuff, so that my eyes would one day be opened, and that my stony heart would be replaced with a new heart, and that one day I would become born again, and become a new creation, willing to lead my old life to serve him and others, and but also leaving me an insatiable desire to know everything about him. Ezekiel eleven nineteen chapter thirty six twenty six and Psalms fifty one ten. Let's look at the gift for a minute, the Christmas gift that beats all the gifts that you will ever receive. The concept of being born again is stated most famously in John three three and John three seven, where Jesus tells a religious leader, Nicodemus, truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. Here are the key passages in the Bible that detail the new birth. The core command in John three three through seven, Jesus explains the natural human birth gives us physical life, but a second, spiritual birth, being born of water and the spirit, is required to enter God's kingdom. The means of rebirth. In Peter one three in first Peter one three, the apostle Peter states that believers are born again, not of physical seed, but through the living and abiding word of God, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Herein lies the sacrifice. He was doing the mundane of life, growing in wisdom and stature, being prepared for ministry, and to ultimately be murdered by people just like you and I. Yep, just like us before we accepted the free gift, becoming a new creation. The apostle Paul describes the result of the spiritual rebirth in Second Corinthians five, seventeen, stating, therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old is gone, the new is here. Kmart doesn't sell new creation gifts. Walmart or Target come way short of it as well. Amazon doesn't sell new people either, that is the new creation suits for anyone. Only Jesus could climb this mountain, and he had choices to do otherwise, and yet he still chose the difficult way up the side of the mountain. God's gift of grace. In Titus three five, Paul explains that God saves us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Okay, so let's peek at a short list of Jesus' prayer life for you, your kids, parents, and co-workers. The Bible explicitly states that Jesus was praying numerous times, primarily through the gospels in the book of Hebrews. These verses highlight his habit of retreating to lonely places and seeking God through both triumphs and suffering. The key moments that he prayed, baptism. The Gospel of Luke notes that as Jesus was praying after his baptism, heaven opened, Luke three, twenty one. He prayed in early mornings. Mark described Jesus getting up very early in the morning while it was still dark, to go to a desolate place and pray. Mark one thirty five. You know I think Jesus did that? So that he had time to pray and then so that he had time to still go and do ministry. Too many of us today, I think, make too many excuses for why we don't have time to pray and then go do ministry. You really have to think about this. And I'm not trying to be a mean guy, but think about this. When was the last time you actually ministered to somebody as it relates to the gospel? You don't have to answer me, but that is something to think about. After miracles Jesus prayed. After feeding the five thousand, Jesus dismissed the crowd and went up on a mountain by himself to pray. Matthew fourteen twenty three. The Garden of Gesmaine. Before his arrest, Jesus fell to the ground in deep anguish and prayed to the Father. Matthew twenty six, thirty six through forty six. On the cross, Jesus audibly prayed for his executioners and committed his spirit to God. Luke twenty three, thirty four and verse forty six. The big prayer for the world, remember that in John? The entire seventeenth chapter of the Gospel of John is a lengthy, recorded prayer that Jesus offered for his disciples and all believers, that is all those whom God has chosen for salvation before the foundation of the world. John seventeen one through twenty six. Hebrews talks about his prayer life. In Hebrews five seven, the author of Hebrews writes generally about Jesus' prayer habits during his earthly life, stating In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears. This is how he felt about humanity's lost condition. You can't say he never loved you. I know that some of these prayers were done in public, but we'll never know how crazy solid his prayer life was for mankind when no one was looking. Yes, we got the gift, but it was his daily sacrifice that led up to the value of the gift of salvation. Interestingly enough, did you ever think that Jesus cried loudly for your salvation? So now we can see why God had given me the mountain parable, right? It isn't like Jesus bought us a new bike, car, or house, healed us of our sicknesses and diseases, but that while we were so pouring out our hatred towards him, sinning at will, that he was clearing the air over our lives with his prayers. I'm sure that there were times he was even protecting us from the devil, even though we deserved harassment from him. Does this mean we shouldn't seek our healing or miracles, signs and wonders through our relationship with God? No, those are like the holidays in our life, when we can receive those gifts that really show us the value of the sacrifices that He made, that His people make today, and that we would be able to receive them. And but these gifts simply represent the mountaintop experience, and not necessarily the journey that He took to make these things available to us. Was a journey necessary? Absolutely. For if he didn't process his life on earth perfectly in those thirty years leading up to his ministry and ultimately his sacrifice on the cross, the mountaintop experience would not have happened. So what mountain are you facing that you need to stop asking God to throw it in the sea, that you might climb it? I know some mountains are destined to end up in the sea, but some are placed in our lives to make us more like our Savior Jesus. The twixie for us is to discern the purpose of our mountain when it shows up. When this little vision finished, God had showed me a mountain. One of the key elements that I noticed was that the top was much narrower than the bottom. Then I started seeing how all of his manifest gifts simply represented the top of the mountain and not the base of the mountain, but the tiny little top. I was healed of diabetes a month or so after I was diagnosed with it. I asked God to remove my appetite for sugar and unhealthy foods that turned into sugar, and in an instant my appetite was changed. My A one C went from fourteen to four point five. It's like I never had it. Did I have to climb up the side of the mountain to get this gift? Nope, but Jesus did. And well he did while being beat nearly to death by some of those who would one day receive his gift as well. One of his mountains to climb was to allow an unrighteous humanity who had no business at all with God to murder him. What right did we have to hang out with him while he was visiting earth? What right do we have to hang out with him today? Ah, because he conquered his mountain. Look, the Bible specifically states that he gave us the right to become sons and daughters in a few different passages, most notably in the Gospel of John and the Apostle Paul's writings. twelve, yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. Second Corinthians six eighteen, and I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. Ephesians one five. God predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will. You can say that you weren't as bad as those who killed him, but I ask who really killed him anyways. Did the Romans or was it the religious people of his day? The Bible recounts Jesus' execution in all four gospels Matthew twenty seven, Mark fifteen, Luke twenty three, and John nineteen. Historically it states that he was sentenced by Roman governor Pontius Pilate and executed by Roman soldiers. Theologically it describes his death as a willing sacrifice orchestrated by God the Father. A narrative spans several layers of responsibility across Scripture. The Roman authorities and soldiers, also known as the executioners. The direct perpetrators were the Roman forces acting under governor Pontius Pilate, who ordered Jesus to be flogged and crucified. This is detailed in Matthew twenty seven, twenty six, and John nineteen, sixteen. The Jewish religious leaders, they were the instigators. High priest elders and the Sanhedrin are described as the ones who arrested Jesus, brought him to trial, and pressured Pilate into executing him. This is recorded in Matthew twenty six, fifty nine, and Mark fifteen ten. God the Father, theological purpose. The New Testament explicitly outlines that the crucifixion happened according to God's deliberate plan to atone for humanity's sins, and that Jesus willingly gave up his life. This is referenced in Acts two twenty three and Romans eight thirty two. Ah but we got to look at those, right? Acts two twenty three, him being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified and put to death. How shall he not with him also freely give us all things? So again was it the Romans, the pastors and elders of his day, or God the Father? I say that it was you when you were living in your sins that ultimately killed him. While you won't find a single verse in the Bible that states our sins kill Jesus, in those exact words, the theological concept of humanity's sin makes his death necessary as a central theme throughout both the Old and New Testaments. The belief that Jesus died for our sins is established in several key scriptures Isaiah fifty three. This Old Testament passage prophesies a crucifixion stating But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities, the punishment that brought us peace was on him. It explicitly connects our sins to his suffering. The Apostle Peter directly states that Jesus bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. Romans four twenty five. The Apostle Paul affirms that Jesus was delivered over to death for our trespasses and was raised to life for our justification. First Corinthians fifteen three. Paul grounds the gospel message in this core truth, writing that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures. And Second Corinthians five twenty-one. This verse explains a mechanism of the sacrifice. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. For who? For us. He became your sin. That's how you got saved. As soon as you surrendered your life, your sins landed on him, and the penalty of those sins was paid by him. Ah, so we can see that while we may not have yet received our healing. We in pain and suffering, like him, can climb the mountain and stop asking God for the easy way out. Oba podcast preacher, didn't you pray and ask God for healing, and then in a snap, he removed your addictions to the wrong food and for sugar? Yes, he did, but I'm still going in the hospital for a cardiovert to reset my heart, and I'm still in heart failure. So he didn't heal me, or rather I have not received my healing for these things, but have been climbing the mountain that these two things represent. Diabetes and many other sicknesses and diseases have landed smack dab in the middle of the sea. But these two are remaining mountains that I have journeyed upon, and after this dream I can fully appreciate the journey. I don't go every day, why why why if I wake up with my heart racin away? I just thank God for the journey. Isaiah fifty five, eight through nine. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Remember God can see the end from the beginning, and so he knows how to steer us into the perfect path so that we can ever become more like his Son Jesus Christ. Does that scripture create a contradiction in scriptures? Nope, no more than this one that talks about a perfect God. Hebrews two ten. For it was fitting for him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through suffering. The key is to simply prepare to climb every mountain that comes before you, but to also ask God if he would remove those that he never intended you to climb. Okay, so the activation of those gifts was paid at the base of the mountain. It was paid through trials, suffering, tribulations, and even the rejection of his life. This gives new meaning to the scripture that talks about us walking through the valley of the shadow of death, right? Psalm twenty three four, yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff they comfort me. What say you? Are you in a valley or staring at a mountain to climb? In a strange sort of way, every valley leads to a mountain sooner or later. Alright, back to the mountain. The journey to the top of the mountain has its fair share of loose rocks, potential slide backs, or backslides, as we do everything in all of our power to ascend to the top. Sometimes we lose our grip, but life has shown us as we've ascended other mountains in our life, that if we hang in there, we will sooner or later get to the top. Oh yes, there will be a price to pay, but the mountaintop experience makes the price worth it. As narrow as it is, it makes a price worth every penny of it. You go to college or university for four years, reading books, taking tests, and writing papers, while working a full time job and raising a family. The reward for all of those sacrifices is that someday they'll hand you a piece of paper that says you made it to the top of the mountain. But the real value of your university experience is that it hopefully taught you to be a life learner and not just to be a seeker of the mountaintop experiences in life. It is a journey through the valley of education where most of the value of education is found. This is why it's imperative that you don't cheat your way through college. You don't want to give the credit for climbing your mountain to somebody else. Before we wrap this up, let's look at what the hubbub is all about. Mark eleven twenty three. For assuredly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, be removed to be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Matthew twenty one twenty one. So Jesus answered and said to them, Assuredly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea, it will be done. We could say that the fig tree represents my diabetes and the mountain represents my heart failure and the atrial fib issues. Now you can argue that this does not say that our mountain has to stay in your life. I would suggest that we look at some of the names of our mountains to see if maybe it does say it with the support of Scripture right out of your Bible. Suffering, John sixteen thirty three, Romans eight, seventeen through eighteen, and Philippians one twenty nine. Tribulations John sixteen thirty three, Acts fourteen twenty two, Second Timothy three, twelve, and first Peter four twelve. Sin James one thirteen, John eight, twenty one, and verse twenty four. Sickness and disease, Deuteronomy eight, fifteen through twenty two, and first Corinthians eleven twenty seven through thirty. Finances Deuteronomy fifteen eleven and Matthew twenty six eleven. Persecutions, Matthew 10, 22, chapter 24, verse 9, John 15, 21, and 2 Timothy 3 12. Hatred towards you, John 15, 18 through 20. Murdered by your own family, Matthew 10, 21 through 22, chapter 24, 9, and verses 34 through 39. And John 16 2. Any one of these could be mountains that you can cast into the sea, or mountains you should be prepared in advance to climb. Peter was led out of prison, therefore it wasn't his mountain to climb. Acts twelve, five through seventeen. I thought to myself, where is the value in that considering the first part of this message and the journey of the mountain, and how life is lived mostly in the ascending to the top, but not at the top? And Jesus spoke to my spirit, as I've already shared, and said some mountains were intended for you to climb. Therein lies the gift of God, where he says you can say to this mountain, notice it is specific to a specific mountain. Again, maybe it represents cancer, Parkinson's disease, the flu or a nasty cold, financial struggles or the loss of a job, getting kicked out of your house, whatever it is for you. Maybe it's one of those mountains that God is trying to say, if you cast it into the sea, I will climb that mountain for you and simply place you on top of it without you having to ascend it. Not all mountains, as we see the value and what they can bring and do for our lives, but some mountains. Yes, some mountains Jesus climbs for you. And our job as we strive to build our relationship so intimately with God, is to find out which mountains we are to ascend and which ones we're supposed to cast into the sea. Let's close in prayer. May the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, so that he may establish your heart's blameless and holiness before your God and Father at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. Now may the God of peace, the one in whom we call wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, may He Himself sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. To our Lord of Lords and our King of Kings, to our high and lifted up great high priest, who has, once and for all, paid the price that you might see and hear God. May He hear and respond to our prayers. To our God we stand and pray, as He too always lives to make intercession for you while seated at the right hand of the Father. May the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, the great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work and do his will, working in you what is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ and He'll be glory forever and ever. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name we pray, amen. Well that's it for today.
